Pale to lemon straw in colour with a very faint haze. Fresh Fragrant nose with aromas of ripe apples, stone fruit and a nutty almond note. The palate has ripe stone fruit and green apple fruit flavours, a fine acid backbone with a slight salty /wet stone textural element, crisp and dry. There is no doubt this wine will deliver every single sip you will have.

About the winemaker
Merekara Wines is the winery of Jaco and Sandra van Hensbergen. After their career in Dutch gastronomy, they left for New Zealand in 2014 to pursue their wine dream. In 2019 this led to their first wine and from 2021 the range will be complete with three unique wines from single vineyards in the Awatere Valley. In the vineyard, extreme attention is paid to the grapes and everything is done manually. In the cellar there is minimal intervention and a natural approach.

| Vineyard | The grapes for this wines are growing near the Awatere river anf this block is one of the stonest areas of the Brêloft vinyard. The clone is 880 on 3309 rootstocks. |

| Vinification | The grapes are grown in the Brêloft vineyard in the Awatere Valley in Marlborough. Shoot thinning, leaf picking, fruit drop and removing all shoulders. Here the perfect environment for Chenin to ripen is created. Only the golden bunches on the north facing side of the vines are picked. After a cold settlement the bunches are foot stamped followed by a whole bunch press.Alcolholic fermentation took place in oak barrels and the wine was kept in those barrels for an other 10 months for the malolactic fermentation. |
