Domaine Coche-Dury

Raphaël Coche

Since 2010, Raphaël Coche has been in charge of the family estate in Meursault, founded in 1923 by Léon Coche. From his earliest youth, he learned the art of winemaking from his father Jean-François, and since 1997 he has worked in the domains' cellars and vineyards. Since 2010, he has been in charge and little or nothing has changed in the cellar. The different wines are counted among the best of the village Meursault and perhaps among the best of Burgundy. According to the Coche family, wines are made in the cellar, but certainly also in the vineyard. This is where Raphaël can be found from early in the morning until late in the afternoon. The wines are given a long "elevage" and benefit from cellar ageing. The domain owns about 11 hectares of vineyards, most of which are situated in the appellation Meursault. Famous are the Premier Cru's Les Perrières, Genevrières and Les Caillerets. Outside Meursault he also owns a vineyard in the Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne, the cult wine of the domain. Other vineyards can be found in Volnay, Monthélie, Auxey-Duresses and Puligny-Montrachet. The Coche family is a great advocate of intensive vineyard management. The timing of the harvest is always carefully chosen and Raphaël favours a ripe harvest. "Late harvesting ensures the preservation potential of my wines" is always the answer when asked. He also learned the art of vinification from his father, where long contact with the lees is essential and is done with almost surgical precision. The wines of Domaine Coche-Dury are exclusively available on allocation and only for our customers in The Netherlands.

Burgundy Wines

In fact, the Burgundy wine region consists of six different areas. The most northerly is Chablis where only white wines are made on the unique chalk soils. The Côte de Nuits can be found between Dijon and Beaune, a sub-region where mainly red wines are made. Here you can find Grand Crus such as Vlos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Mazis-Chambertin. Between Beaune and Chalon-sur-Saone lies the Côte de Beaune. A region where both white and red are made, but the white wines from villages such as Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet have almost reached cult status. Chalonnais begins south of Chassagne-Montrachet, an area with villages such as Rully and Mercurey. Here wines are made with a wonderful price-quality ratio. The most famous white wines from the south in Burgundy, the Maconnais, bear names such as Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran and Mâcon. A little further south is the Beaujolais, also part of Burgundy. No pinot noir here, but gamay for the red wines
