Domaine Rougeot Père & Fils

Pierre-Henri Rougeot

Since 2010, Pierre-Henri Rougeot has been active on the family estate. Since his arrival, the style of winemaking has changed, as has the work in the vineyards. The father, Marc Rougeot, founded the estate in 1975. The Rougeot family excels in appellations such as Meursault, Volnay and Pommard. The approach is biodynamic: as little intervention as possible during vinification and as little use of sulphites as possible. All this has a huge impact on the wines and slowly the domain gets the recognition it deserves. With the arrival of Pierre-Henri a lot has changed at Domaine Rougeot. Even more, Pierre-Henri works according to the philosophy of biodynamic viticulture, clearly inspired by Lalou Bize-Leroy, a friend of the family. In addition to adopting the biodynamic method, he also works as little as possible with added sulfites. The domain has an aligoté, pinot noir and a Pommard "sans sulfite ajouté". He also tries to vinify each vineyard as much as possible, so there are for example three different chardonnays from three different terroirs within the municipal boundaries of Meursault. Burgundy Wines

In fact, the Burgundy wine region consists of six different areas. The most northerly is Chablis where only white wines are made on the unique chalk soils. The Côte de Nuits can be found between Dijon and Beaune, a sub-region where mainly red wines are made. Here you can find Grand Crus such as Vlos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Mazis-Chambertin. Between Beaune and Chalon-sur-Saone lies the Côte de Beaune. A region where both white and red are made, but the white wines from villages such as Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet have almost reached cult status. Chalonnais begins south of Chassagne-Montrachet, an area with villages such as Rully and Mercurey. Here wines are made with a wonderful price-quality ratio. The most famous white wines from the south in Burgundy, the Maconnais, bear names such as Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran and Mâcon. A little further south is the Beaujolais, also part of Burgundy. No pinot noir here, but gamay for the red wines
