Claudia, Pepita & Giulia Härri

When Pablo Härri from Switzerland arrived in Tuscany in the early 1980s, he met Claudia Ferrero. This soon led to a love affair and later the birth of their three daughters, Giulia, Pepita and Silvia. Claudia and Pablo continued to work for a large estate in the area and in 2002 they started building their own wine estate in Montalcino. Seven years later Pablo quit his job and threw himself into his own domain and his work as a consultant at other wineries. Not without success, because the small domain quickly grew in reputation and besides the vineyards in Montalcino, also vineyards in the Maremma were added. These vineyards are all cultivated organically and the wines are brought up to date in the small cellar next to the house. After the sudden death of Pablo, the daughters and their mother took over the reins, so it's a domain with only ladies at the helm.

Giulia & Pepita

The two youngest daughters are now the driving forces behind the small wine estate, although mother Claudia should not be underestimated. Giulia and Pepita, however, are now in charge. Pepita for the full 100%, because she can concentrate fully on the estate in Montalcino. Giulia is mainly busy with the domain during the weekends, as she still has her work as a winemaker at the famous Tuscan wine domain Mastrojanni. Before she has been working at an other famous domain: Tua Rita in Suvereto.

Italian Wines

Many serious and extremely special wines are made in Italy. It is perhaps the wine country with the greatest diversity of wines and grapes. From the far north to the heel, wines are made from many diverse, often autochthonous, grape varieties. Wine is part of the country's culture and a meal without wine is unthinkable here. Italian wine regions such as Piemonte, Tuscany, Friuli and Abruzzo are just a few of the unique wine regions that can be found in the country.

Italian red wine

The main grapes for red wine in Italy are Nebbiolo and Sangiovese without wanting to discredit another grape variety. Nebbiolo is the grape variety of Piemonte and great Italian wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco are made from this grape variety. Sangiovese is mainly planted in Tuscany, the Chianti region and Brunello di Montalcino. But not only these two wines, in recent years there has been a lot of attention for the Super-Tuscans. Wines from often international grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.

Italian White Wine

White wines are of course made throughout the country, but the most important areas for white wine are Friuli and Alto Adige. Two wine regions in northwestern Italy. Here, Italian wine is made from well-known grape varieties such as Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, but also from lesser-known varieties such as Ribolla Giala, Friulano and Riesling. Vermentino is often the basis for white wines from Tuscany, and in Piedmont there are also fine examples of the Chardonnay grape.

Italian sparkling wines

In addition to the still wines, Italy is of course known for the sparkling wines that are made in Lombardia, of course, but also in the region of Friuli Venetia. In Franciacorta, chardonnay, pinot nero and pinot biancio form the basis of sparkling wines made with the classic second fermentation in the bottle.
