Young talents Charles and Amelie are shaking things up for the better, with a more disciplined look at Alsace’s rich terroir to match grape varietals with the soils that express them best. Their clean and expressive — yet still utterly natural, biodynamically grown — single-varietal wines are a flavorful revelation, and show the limitless potential of this historic region. The domain is located in the village of Wettolsheim, south of Colmar. Here in the southern part of Alsace, the family owns approximately 30 hectares in seven villages, including four grand crus. The majority of the vineyards have been managed by the family for generations. As soon as Charles and Amélie fully owned the domain, they started the conversion to organic and biodynamic viticulture and from 2019 all vineyards of the family are organic and biodynamic certified. Viticulture is as natural as possible. Especially now the growing seasons are becoming increasingly warmer, maintaining the natural balance in the vineyard is essential.

Domaine Amélie & Charles Sparr was only founded quite recently, but has centuries of experience: Charles represents the eighth generation of winegrowers dating back to 1634 and Amélie Buecher has been involved in biodynamic viticulture since 1997. By merging inherited vineyards from both familes, the young couple started their own domain in 2017 with the goal to create terroir-true, dry wines according to organic/biodynamic principles.

Refined, expressive on the palate with intense white fruit and a dry, persistent aftertaste.
