L'Insolite Sauvignon blanc 2022
Merekara Wines
The colour is pale straw to lemon with a faint haziness from no filtration at bottling. Fresh grapefruit, citrus, tropical fruit and herbal aromas in the nose with a subtle lychee note. The palate is complex and vibrant with tart citrus fruit and tropical flavours, a nice grippy acidity, fine oak and mineral textural elements all rounded out with a full-bodied creamy mouthfeel.

About the winemaker
Merekara Wines is the winery of Jaco and Sandra van Hensbergen. After their career in Dutch gastronomy, they left for New Zealand in 2014 to pursue their wine dream. In 2019 this led to their first wine and from 2021 the range will be complete with three unique wines from single vineyards in the Awatere Valley. In the vineyard, extreme attention is paid to the grapes and everything is done manually. In the cellar there is minimal intervention and a natural approach.

| Vinification | At Merekara only bunches who were exposed to the hotter afternoon sun are selected for this wine. These bunches give more ripe and intense flavours. In the winery the bunches were whole pressed and the juice was cold settled overnight. The very next day the juice was transferred into oak barrles from François Frères where both fermentations took place. The wine was not filtered before bottling. |
