About the winemaker
Merekara Wines is the winery of Jaco and Sandra van Hensbergen. After their career in Dutch gastronomy, they left for New Zealand in 2014 to pursue their wine dream. In 2019 this led to their first wine and from 2021 the range will be complete with three unique wines from single vineyards in the Awatere Valley. In the vineyard, extreme attention is paid to the grapes and everything is done manually. In the cellar there is minimal intervention and a natural approach.

| Vinification | The white wines are made from grapes from two single vineyards and the red from a slightly higher block. The white grapes are picked at optimal ripeness and, after whole bunch pressing, are aged for 10 months in oak barrels. After picking, 40% of Pinot Noir is processed as a whole bunch and 60% is destemmed. After this, she was raised in oak for 10 months. |
