Château de Poncié | France | Beaujolais |
In the year 949, the owner of the Château de Poncié, called by its Latin name Villa Ponciago, donated his vineyard to the Abbey of Cluny, with the hope of saving his soul. A very old map bears long witness to the diversity of the domain. Its 46 hectares of vines on the slopes on the hillsides boasting no fewer than 40 distinct terroirs, surround the 18th century castle and its winery.
With the greatest respect for the soil and the biodiversity, the wines reflect the typical character of the Cru Fleurie. The wines are authentic, gastronomic, juicy and subtle.
Vineyard |
This “climat” overlooks Moulin à
Vent, on vertiginous slopes. Grassing over and home-made mulching. Oldest vines
of the domain (70 years old). Quartz, clay and granite make up this incredible
terroir, looking at Mont Blanc on the horizon. No machine, exclusively manual
works. Yields naturally limited by the terroir (less than 20hl/ha). Manual harvest in small cases of
13 kg. Careful manual sorting of each grape. |

Vinification |
Plot vinification in a single cuvée. Cold maceration (no addition of sulfur) with one part of whole bunches and one part of destalked bunches, followed by very long fermentation (15-20 days) to allow the terroir to emerge. Gentle punching of the cap. Complete maturing in oak barrels (3 to 5 years old barrels) for 10 to 12 months.
