About the winemaker
In 1742, Quinta do Lagar Novo was built on the foundations of the old house of Lagar de Fuso e Vara, in the countryside of Alenquer, approximately 35 km from Lisbon. The farm then was acquired by the Gonçalves de Carvalho family and is currently owned by the second and third generations. This small family estate, with a history of more than 200 years of grape and wine production, has approximately 5 hectares of vineyards. At the turn of the millennium, Luís Carvalho reunited his family and the entire vineyard area was renewed, making way for varieties that were more suitable for local conditions. Based on his knowledge and skills, white grape varieties in particular were planted. His eldest son Tiago is responsible for the vinification, while his younger son João takes care of the work in the vineyard. The marketing and design of this small family domain is in the hands of daughter Helena.
