About the winemaker
One of the most striking wine companies in South Africa is without doubt De Toren Private Cellar, founded by Emil den Dulk and Albie Koch. A wine company, which has made a name for itself with red wines based on the five grape varieties from Bordeaux. Emil retired and handed the company over to new owners. Albie Koch now runs the daily operations together with the owners. The various wines from the hand of winemaker Charles Williams are known for their complexity, aging potential, accessibility and, of course, towering quality. Since they work with gravity, the wines have a different tannin structure and can be used in gastronomy in their youth. However, the wines also benefit from several years of cellar storage.

| Vineyard | The folks at De Toren are accused by some critics of obsessive vineyard management. It can't go far enough for us. Before starting De Toren, Emil did extensive research on the terroir. The vineyards are located at 170 to 200 meters above sea level and roughly 7 different soil types can be distinguished. The type of vine and even clone is tailored to each soil type. As a result, there are a total of 18 different clones of the 5 grape varieties that have been planted. The cooling breeze from the sea, called Zipper, ensures perfect harmony and contributes to the perfect ripening of the fruit. |
