About the winemaker
One of the best kept secrets of the Loire is Domaine Edmond Vatan. In recent years, however, the estate has gained absolute cult status. The wine, Clos la Néore, is considered the absolute showpiece of the village of Chavignol. The domain got its big name from Edmond Vatan who made the wines for 60 years. Very traditional and classic. From 2008, his daughter Anne, along with her father, has been making the wine. Clos la Néore is in fact still the only wine that is made. Other vineyards outside this monopole are rented out for longer periods to winemakers from the village of Chavignol. The estate has a very old classic cellar in the heart of the village. This is where the wine is made, bottled by hand, labeled and given the unique green wax capsule.

Details
| Vineyard | Clos la Néore is a vineyard on the Monts Damnés, the famous slope in the village of Chavignol in the Sancerre appellation. This monopole measures 1 hectare and was planted in 1970. Edmond Vatan cleared the vineyard in 1959 and left it fallow for 10 years before starting replanting through a "mass selection". The vineyard is rich in Kimmeridgien rock, the unique terroir of this famous slope. |

| Vinification | After the harvest, the grapes are taken directly to the small cellar in the heart of Chavignol. The grapes are pressed and the juice pumped into large standing vats for alcoholic fermentation. No yeasts are added for this purpose. After about 8 months, the wine is bottled and then receives bottle aging in the estate's cellars. |
