The Sadie Family Wines | South Africa | Swartland |
Vineyard | Wine made from a vineyard located 4km west of Malmesbury, which was planted with Tinta Barocca in 1974. The soil is rich in granite and sandstone (Table Mountain Sandstone). The grape is mainly found in the Portuguese Douro Valley, where it forms the basis of many Port wines. This grape was also widely planted in Swartland ( South Africa), but was in danger of losing its place. |

Vinification | Half of the bunches were destemmed and after a 25-day vinification, the wine was pressed using a basket press. After pressing, the wine was raised in large wooden casks for 11 months, then stayed on concrete for two more weeks before being bottled. Yield here is 28 hl/ha and the wine is neither clarified nor filtered and is best decanted before drinking. |
