About the winemaker
The Casa Santa Eufemia was founded in 1894 by Bernardo Rodriquez de Carvalho and is still owned by the family. The estate is situated on the left bank of the Douro River. The 40 hectare estate is located at an altitude of 300 meters between Peso de Régua and Pinhão, where about 80% of the vineyards are planted with traditional grapes such as touriga nacional, tinto roriz, tinta barocca and touriga francesca. The remaining 20% of the vineyards are planted with malvazia fina, malvasia rei, moscatel galego and cercial. Casa Santa Eufemia has a wonderful selection of tawny ports and a very special Special White Port.

| Vinification | At harvest there is a yield of up to 33 hl/ha and after harvest the grapes are first destemmed. This is followed by fermentation in concrete vats and when the sugar content is ideal, brandy is added to stop the alcoholic fermentation. Lagering is 30% in large oak barrels, 5% in oak casks, 65% in walnut wood barrels. |
