Gevrey-Chambertin 2019

The premier cru has a beautiful deep red colour. The wine has a lot of structure (yet elegant tannins) and a rich aroma with ripe dark fruit and spicy tones. The taste is full, firm and rich with good notes of the wood storage.

About the winemaker Founded in 1731, Bouchard Père et Fils is one of the oldest wineries in Burgundy. A winery with a long history and an impressive acreage of vineyards. With 130 hectares of its own vineyards spread over 12 Grand Cru's and 74(!) premier cru's among others, winemaker Frédéric Weber has access to a unique terroir. As of the 2020 vintage, the vineyards are in conversion to organic viticulture and with this, the winery is sending a great signal in the Burgundy wine region. Many vineyards were already farmed organically, but the certification will follow in 2024. Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, Chevalier-Montrachet, Beaune Grèves Vignes de l'Enfant Jésus, Bonnes-Mares, Meursault Perrières are some of the prestigious vineyards that belong to the vineyard estate.

Details

Vineyard The most famous appellation of the Côte de Nuits produces rich elegant wines. The soil here consists of limestone, clay and rock. The fruit for this wine is purchased by the house from winemakers who work the vineyard according to the strict requirements of Bouchard Père et Fils.
Vinification Depending on the vintage, there is a full or partial vinification entière. Fermentation is between 15-20 days and after pressing there is an upbringing in oak barrels. The ageing process takes 10-12 months and 25-30% of the barrels are new.
