Portuguese wines

When people think of Portugal, they immediately think of port wine. But there is of course much more wine from this country, which is still full of autochthonous grapes. Where wine countries started to plant the popular and often originally French grapes, the Portuguese stayed with their autochthonous grapes and taste. Wine has been cultivated in Portugal for 4,000 years. Portugal borders Spain to the east and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The most important cities are Lisbon and Porto. In Lisbon, the Taag (Tejo) flows into the Atlantic Ocean and in Porto the Douro. Some of Portugal's most important wine regions are located along these rivers. The largest wine regions are Minho, where the vinho verde comes from, Douro, the birthplace of port, Dão, Alentejo, Algarve and the area around Lisbon.
