Bouchard Père & Fils

Frédéric Weber

Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the most important wineries in Burgundy. With a vineyard estate of 130 hectares including 12 hectares of different Grand Cru's and 74 hectares of different premier cru's, winemaker Frédéric Weber has an impressive acreage of vineyards. The Bouchard family founded the estate in 1731 and the first vineyards were purchased in 1775. Over the centuries, more and more vineyards were added to the property and it remained in the family's ownership well into the 20th century. Until the 90's of the last century the Bouchard family transferred the domain to the Henriot family of the champagne house with the same name. This resulted in an enormous quality leap and now, more than 20 years later, the focus is completely on the wines from the own vineyards. Most important is the attention for the vineyards and the decision to work completely organic. From 2020 the vineyards are in conversion and from 2024 all wines will be certified organic. Some examples of the vineyard holdings are Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Echézeaux, Beaune 1er cru Grèves le Vigne d'Enfant Jésus, Corton-Charlemagne, Meursault 1er cru les Gouttes d'Or, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru Les Cailles. Burgundy Wines

In fact, the Burgundy wine region consists of six different areas. The most northerly is Chablis where only white wines are made on the unique chalk soils. The Côte de Nuits can be found between Dijon and Beaune, a sub-region where mainly red wines are made. Here you can find Grand Crus such as Vlos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Mazis-Chambertin. Between Beaune and Chalon-sur-Saone lies the Côte de Beaune. A region where both white and red are made, but the white wines from villages such as Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet have almost reached cult status. Chalonnais begins south of Chassagne-Montrachet, an area with villages such as Rully and Mercurey. Here wines are made with a wonderful price-quality ratio. The most famous white wines from the south in Burgundy, the Maconnais, bear names such as Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran and Mâcon. A little further south is the Beaujolais, also part of Burgundy. No pinot noir here, but gamay for the red wines
