Vineyard | Wine made solely from chenin blanc, from a vineyard in Jonkershoek Valley in Stellenbosch, which is considered the oldest chenin blanc vineyard in the country. The wine is named after the, in 2015, deceased owner of the vineyard. The soil is rich in granite and the vineyard was largely planted in the 1920s. Because the vines are slowly dying, a lot of work is needed in the vineyard to extend the life of the vines. |

Vinification | Grapes from this vineyard are vinified differently than the other wines in the Ouwingerd series. Here the grapes first undergo a maceration carbonique before fermentation begins. The harvest is also quite early in this vineyard to preserve more acidity and fraicheur in the wine, the yield is no more than 25 hl/ha. Due to the age of the vines, there is a risk of oxidation, which is why picking is done a little earlier and a different method of vinification is used. The wine is not clarified nor filtered and is best decanted before drinking. |
