Domaine d'Auvenay

Lalou Bize-Leroy

Madame Bize-Leroy is energetic, known as a fanatical mountain climber and is probably one of the most fervent defenders of biodynamic viticulture on our planet. After the death of her father, she restructured the 22 hectare Leroy family domain, according to the strict principles of biodynamics. She also took charge of the legendary Domaine de la Romanée Conti with her cousin Aubert de Villaine. In 1992 she had to leave the domain after several conflicts, but remained a 25% shareholder. After her departure she devoted herself fully to the wines of her own domain: Domaine d'Auvenay. The total vineyard estate covers some 4 hectares and her aim is to go even further. A summary of the domaine d'Auvenay's vineyard holdings: the parcel sous le Chatelet measures 31 ares and is planted exclusively with aligoté. Madame Bize-Leroy owns several vineyards in the following municipalities. Auxey Duresses: the lieu-dits Les Boutonniers and Les Clous. In Meursault Chaumes des Perrières, Pré de Manche and les Narvaux and the premier cru Les Gouttes d'Or. In Puligny-Montrachet she owns a parcel of Enseignères, the premier cru vineyard and la Richarde and a parcel of Les Folatières, note this is not a premier cru. The Grand Cru vineyards complete the range: for white Chevalier-Montrachet (16 ares), Batard-Montrachet (1 ouvrée) and Criots-Batard-Montrachet (6 ares). For red Mazis-Chambertin (25 ares) and Bonnes Mares (25 ares). The wines of Domaine d'Auvenay are only available on allocation and residents of The Netherlands.

Burgundy Wines

In fact, the Burgundy wine region consists of six different areas. The most northerly is Chablis where only white wines are made on the unique chalk soils. The Côte de Nuits can be found between Dijon and Beaune, a sub-region where mainly red wines are made. Here you can find Grand Crus such as Vlos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Mazis-Chambertin. Between Beaune and Chalon-sur-Saone lies the Côte de Beaune. A region where both white and red are made, but the white wines from villages such as Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet have almost reached cult status. Chalonnais begins south of Chassagne-Montrachet, an area with villages such as Rully and Mercurey. Here wines are made with a wonderful price-quality ratio. The most famous white wines from the south in Burgundy, the Maconnais, bear names such as Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran and Mâcon. A little further south is the Beaujolais, also part of Burgundy. No pinot noir here, but gamay for the red wines
