Domaine Lamy-Pillot

Florence Lamy & Sébastien Caillat

In 1973, René Lamy and Thérèse Pillot, both born into real winemaking families, married and started their estate in the Hameau de Morgeot on the outskirts of Chassagne-Montrachet. Today the estate is in the hands of daughters Florence and Karine and their husbands. Florence and her husband Sebastien Caillat are now responsible for the vinification. Florence trained in Beaune, while Sebastien Caillat trained in Strasbourg and Dijon. In addition to their training, they both completed many apprenticeships, at home and abroad, before taking over the cellar in 1998. Karine and her husband Daniël are responsible for sales and administration. This real family domain has over 20 hectares of vineyards at their disposal and with these they produce a wide range of both white and red wines. The vineyard estate is located in Chassagne-Montrachet where, besides some well-known lieu-dits, there are also no less than seven different premier cru vineyards, all owned by the family. Outside the village there are vineyards in the appellations Saint Aubin, Meursault, Beaune and even the Grand Cru Le Montrachet. Website: www.lamypillot.fr

Burgundy Wines

In fact, the Burgundy wine region consists of six different areas. The most northerly is Chablis where only white wines are made on the unique chalk soils. The Côte de Nuits can be found between Dijon and Beaune, a sub-region where mainly red wines are made. Here you can find Grand Crus such as Vlos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Mazis-Chambertin. Between Beaune and Chalon-sur-Saone lies the Côte de Beaune. A region where both white and red are made, but the white wines from villages such as Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet have almost reached cult status. Chalonnais begins south of Chassagne-Montrachet, an area with villages such as Rully and Mercurey. Here wines are made with a wonderful price-quality ratio. The most famous white wines from the south in Burgundy, the Maconnais, bear names such as Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran and Mâcon. A little further south is the Beaujolais, also part of Burgundy. No pinot noir here, but gamay for the red wines
