About the winemaker
After being responsible for vinification at the acclaimed Hamilton-Russell for 12 years, Hannes Storm has chosen to fully focus on his own wines. In 2008 he started planting his own vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and in total he now has 4 different plots at his disposal. The first vintage was in 2012 for Vrede Pinot Noir and Moya Pinot Noir (nowadays Ignis). In 2015, Vrede Chardonnay and Ridge Pinot noir followed. With the addition of the Ridge vineyard, Hannes is the only winemaker in Hemel-en-Aarde who makes wines on the three different terroirs that the valley knows.

| Vineyard | Hannes is the only winemaker in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley who owns vineyards across the various appellations. Vrede comes from a north-facing vineyard high up in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Ridge comes from an east-facing hillside vineyard high in the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge. The soil is relatively poor, characterized by clay and stones, and features Bokkeveld shale. Ignis is Latin for "fire"—a reference to the granite abundant in the soil of this vineyard in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde. |

| Vinification | After harvesting, the grapes are pressed in a basket press, followed by fermentation in oak. Malolactic fermentation is complete, and oak aging is distributed as follows: 28% new barrels, 33% second-fill, and the remainder third-fill or older. The total aging period is 11 months. |
