About the winemaker
Definitely one of the greatest winemakers and personalities Italy has known. Thanks in part to his vision, personality and talent, the wines from the Montalcino area have achieved the status they have today. Only if you have ever visited Case Basse® and met Mr. Soldera do you fully understand that this man was unique. Nothing was left to chance to make the best wine possible on his unique terroir. Studies in the vineyard, analyses of the must and the wine, a unique cellar that was still in contact with the outside world and thus the wines were always in contact with nature. His wines can still be tasted in the coming years. Daughter Monica, with her husband Mauro (right hand of Mr. Soldera for the past 20 years), continues her father's work. Case Basse, however, is where Gianfranco Soldera will live on forever. This man was way ahead of his time.

| Vineyard | Gianfranco Soldera makes a completely unique wine on his idyllic Case Basse ®, which undoubtedly belongs to the greats of the world. In 1972, Gianfranco realized his great dream by purchasing an 11-hectare property, in the then little-known Montalcino. Soldera had been looking for the ultimate terroir for several years and was immediately convinced that he had found it here. An environment was created around and in the vineyards, aiming for the most natural balance possible. At the heart of the estate a garden has been created with around 2,000 different species of flowers. Throughout the year, something is in bloom, the garden provides an unprecedented biodiversity, the basis of this great wine. |

| Vinification | The wines are made very traditionally and aged for approximately six years in large oak barrels. Only natural yeasts are used and as little intervention as possible. Soldera applies the principle that a great wine has a long life. His wines must therefore be able to last a very long time. Twenty to thirty years should not be a problem. |
