Quite Mencia 2022
Veronica OrtegaThe wine has a fine ruby red colour and smells of red and dark fruit, floral tones, but also spicy tones. Everything comes back in the taste. Nice minerality and even something salty in the aftertaste.

About the winemaker
Veronica Ortega is considered the future queen of Spanish viticulture. She was born in Cadiz in the Sherry region. Veronica first worked in wine in Priorat with Alvaro Palacios, then in New Zealand and Burgundy. In Bourgogne even at the mythical Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, before settling in Bierzo. Here she worked from 2010 to 2014 at Raul Perez, another great winemaker. From 2014, however, Veronica has her own cellar and her star is rising. The Bierzo region in northwestern Spain is known for its red wines from the mencia grape. This is also the grape that Veronica excels with. All her grapes are organically grown and hand-picked.

Details
| Vineyard | The vineyards are located in and around Valtuile de Abajo. The vines are more than 80 years old and are worked entirely organically. The soils are clayey, sandy with large pebbles and cobbles. |
|---|---|
| Vinification | The harvest for this wine is entirely manual and 18-kilogram boxes are used. The bunches are then completely destemmed and put into stainless steel vats. After this, the natural yeasts must do their work. After fermentation, the wine is pressed and finally stays for another 7 months in used barriques, open foeders and amphorae. |
