About the winemaker
Eben Sadie is counted among the pioneers in South African viticulture. Because of his insight it can be said, that the Swartland region came in a completely different light. It was Eben, who found the older vineyards here and made his famous Columella and Palladius. In 2012 he started a series of wines, also called the Ouwingerd series. A series of wines from vineyards with very old vines and the wines made from them are stunning. Through low yields and the craftsmanship of Eben Sadie, a new series of top wines from the Cape is born.

Details
| Vineyard | At the base are 14 vineyards on Paardeberg Mountain, 1 on Piketberg and 2 at St. Helena Bay. All very different in terms of exposition and planting. The vineyards are not irrigated, something that is common in Swartland. The soil consists of granite, sandstone and pebbles. |

| Vinification | After harvest, the grapes are sorted manually. Pressed in an old basket-press and the juice then goes directly into amphorae, concrete eggs. In these, the wine stays for 12 months before the wines are blended and transferred to large old wooden barrels. The wine stays in these barrels for 12 months. Fermentation is spontaneous and is not triggered by additives. Fermentation also stops by itself and there is no intervention. Only after this is the final blend made and bottled. Yield was 29 hl/ha. |
