JCP Maltus WinesRemarkable in this wine is the minerality in both aroma and taste. The tones of fruit that predominate in the wine are the tones of plums, blackcurrants, but also floral tones. The wine has quite strong tannins, but the fruit tones compensate sufficiently. This is a wine with an enormous storage potential.

About the winemaker
Jonathan Maltus came into contact with a winemaker in southern France in his thirties. In exchange for help in sales, he learned the craft of winemaking from this winemaker. Meeting this winemaker changed his life forever. Two years later, in 1994, Jonathan Maltus bought the dilapidated Chateau Teyssier to realize his dream: to make wines in Saint Emilion and then the best! This period in the 1990s is known as the period when new winemaking methods were emerging in this region and the winemakers who introduced this were also called garagistes. Jonathan was at the center of this new group of winemakers and soon his single vineyard wine Le Dôme was counted among the top 3 wines in the region. Now more than 20 years later, Jonathan has an impressive array of wines, all from selected vineyards with a special terroir. The Chateau Teyssier is his home and its vineyards now cover some 20 hectares.

| Vineyard | The vineyard for Les Asteries is only 1.2 hectares and was planted in 1920. This vineyard is located near the famous Clos Fourtet and the town of Saint Emilion. The particularity of the vineyard is that it survived the extreme frosts of 1956 and that the two different grape varieties were planted completely interchangeably. As a result, there is only one harvest. The soil has a layer of clay followed by a substantial layer of limestone. This hard limestone is called calcaire asteries and the name of the wine is a reference to this particular soil type. Deeper into the soil then comes a layer of ferruginous clay. Grape composition: 70% merlot, 30% cabernet franc. |

| Vinification | After the manual harvest there is a strict selection of the grapes. First a check of the bunches and after destemming the grapes are checked again one by one. This is followed by pressing and the must is then put into large wooden barrels for fermentation. The malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak. This is where the wine ages for 12 months. |
