De Toren Edition Z 2020
De Toren Private CellarAromas of rosehip, plum and blackberry are unmistakable in the first nose. On the palate, refined and very well integrated acids, which provide a striking freshness in this, on the right bank Bordeaux, styled wine. Soft but powerful tannins, which are also nicely interwoven in the wine, notes of cinnamon and red fruit betray the percentage of Merlot. The aftertaste is refined and elegant.

About the winemaker
One of the most striking wine companies in South Africa is without doubt De Toren Private Cellar, founded by Emil den Dulk and Albie Koch. A wine company, which has made a name for itself with red wines based on the five grape varieties from Bordeaux. Emil retired and handed the company over to new owners. Albie Koch now runs the daily operations together with the owners. The various wines from the hand of winemaker Charles Williams are known for their complexity, aging potential, accessibility and, of course, towering quality. Since they work with gravity, the wines have a different tannin structure and can be used in gastronomy in their youth. However, the wines also benefit from several years of cellar storage.

Details
| Vineyard | The people at De Toren are accused by some critics of obsessive vineyard management. It can't go far enough for us. Before starting De Toren, Emil did extensive research on the terroir. The vineyards are located at 170 to 200 meters above sea level and roughly 7 different soil types can be distinguished. The type of vine and even clone is tailored to each soil type. As a result, there are a total of 18 different clones of the 5 grape varieties that have been planted. The cooling breeze from the sea, called Zipper, ensures perfect harmony and contributes to the perfect ripening of the fruit. |

| Vinification | The wine undergoes a traditional red vinification and then spends 12 months in oak barrels. After the wood aging, the wine is blended and bottled. At De Toren, gravity is used entirely to move the wine through the cellar. From pressing to bottling, gravity is used. |
