About the winemaker
Eben Sadie is counted among the pioneers in South African viticulture. Because of his insight it can be said, that the Swartland region came in a completely different light. It was Eben, who found the older vineyards here and made his famous Columella and Palladius. In 2012 he started a series of wines, also called the Ouwingerd series. A series of wines from vineyards with very old vines and the wines made from them are stunning. Through low yields and the craftsmanship of Eben Sadie, a new series of top wines from the Cape is born.

Details
| Vineyard | The vineyards for Columella are found on Paardeberg, Kasteelberg, Piquetberg and near Malmesbury. An area with a poor terroir, little water and therefore irrigation is necessary. The good thing about this region is that there are many old vines to be found. The soil is rich in granite, slate and sandstone. |

| Vinification | Everything is hand picked and then hand sorted. The grapes are destemmed piece by piece and fermentation takes place in large open barrels. This is followed by aging in barriques, 5% of which are new for 12 months. After this, the wine is transferred to large wooden casks for another 12 months of aging |
