About the winemaker
Since 1983, Josef Michel has had his winery on the outskirts of Vogtsburg. The total vineyard area measures 13 hectares and is concentrated around Achkarren in the heart of the best part of the Baden wine region. The top vineyard Schlossberg is the basis of many extraordinary wines. With a short pruning method, selective manual harvesting and a guided fermentation, the potential of the vineyard is fully exploited. Michel is the leading producer on the Achkarrer Schlossberg. With his search for finesse, elegance and typicity, he has succeeded in raising his wines to an exceptionally high level in recent years. According to wine critics, his grauburgunder wines are among the best in Germany and his three-star wines are among the absolute top of Baden. Red is young and elegant and beautifully expresses the volcanic terroir that characterizes the soil in this part of Baden. Weingut J. Michel is a member of the VDP.
