About the winemaker Brookdale is the estate of Tim Rudd. This Englishman has fallen for the land, the wines and the wine regions of South Africa. In Paarl, he found the estate that he thought had a great future. Tim surrounded himself with the best South African specialists he could find. Duncan Savage as consultant winemaker and Jaco Engelbrecht as viticulturist. Together they decided to go for field-blends with white and red Rhone varieties and of course chenin blanc. Especially the older vineyards, which were already planted with chenin blanc show, that the soil which is rich in granite, clay, quartz and schist is extremely suitable for this grape variety. As of 2019, Kiara Scott is responsible for the vinification for all wines at Brookdale Estate.

Details

Vineyard	The Mason Road syrah comes from young vineyards (approximately 15 years old) around Brookdale Estate. The estate is located near Klein Drakenstein in Paarl, a long-established wine region with a long history.
Vinification	After manual harvesting, the grapes are fermented in open vats, mainly destemmed, a small part whole bunches. Soft extraction and soft pressing. Malolactic fermentation and 8 months aging in French oak barrels (300 and 500l.) and foudres (2500l.), of which 40% new wood.
